Introducing the Balinese
Bale'.
Bale' is
the Balinese term for a pavilion. The "Bale' Bengong"
comprising four posts, a platform and hip roof, is used traditionally
as a retreat from the heat of the day. The "Bale' Gede"
using the same concept, is constructed with up to 12 posts and
is used for ceremonies and banquets. They can be found in all
parts of the Lessa Sundra Straits, including Bali, Lombok and
neighbouring islands.
When finished
with Alang-Alang roofing the Bale' is the centrepiece of any
tropical garden or pool area. In western society uses for the
bale' are only limited by imagination. For example, why not
install a spa pool, or cover with cushions to create a simple
shady resting place.
